Jonathan retired from the Navy after  22-1/2 years of active service and began selling EZUp Instant Shelters in Southern California, leading him to his first dog show in Chula Vista, CA.  In 1999, he met Paul Bruneau from Shear Delight who introduced him to the fascinating world of scissors and sharpening.  After 3 years with Shear Delight, it was time to venture out and JL SharpShop (Sharp Shop Guy) was born.

Along the way, skills were refined by working with the Masters of the Industry:  Arius-Eickert (now Symphony Shears), Kenchii, Chris Christensen Systems, Wolff Industries, Utsumi-America, Anvil, Andis, Oster and 4420.  He is proud to offer products  from  these Industry Leading Manufacturers.  In 2020, his own line of scissors were introduced, Runs with Scissors, applying 21+ years of knowledge and experience into a reliable and very affordable scissor line.

With his Bullmastiff Eddie, he travels the country attending  about 30-35 dog shows each year.  He feels blessed  to be able to combine a love for trade, with the excitement of campaigning a beautiful dog and serving the grooming, stylist and barber industries. Please check our calendar for show locations in your area.  

Additionally, a full service shop is maintained in Venus, TX to handle your walk-in by appointment and mail-in needs.  The Sharp Shop Guy's mobile sharpening van travels surrounding areas of DFW and Central Texas to fulfill your sharpening needs.
